Our Services

We request that you make an appointment for all visits. You can call us at 510-483-2600 during our business hours Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, and on Saturday 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. Please call us as early as possible in the day, particularly if you desire a same day appointment.  We will do our best to accommodate your schedule and do triage and prioritize sick children who are established patients for same day appointments.  For routine visits, please try to call us at least one month in advance of the date that you would like to have the appointment, particularly if you would like to have the doctor of your choice see your child.

Routine and urgent care appointments will be scheduled Monday through Friday during our regular business hours. Saturday clinic hours are for urgent care visits only and will only be scheduled starting the Wednesday prior to that Saturday clinic.

If you are a new patient, please have your insurance card easily accessible when you call to make your appointment. We will need to verify your insurance prior to your appointment and therefore, we are unable to accommodate same day sick appointments for new patients.

Each time you come for a visit, we recommend that you come 15 minutes prior to the appointment and that you bring:

  • Your child’s immunization card
  • Your insurance card
  • Your co-payment

We provide the following types of appointments:

  • Well child/physical exams from birth to age 18
  • Sports and camp physicals
  • Pre-operative physicals
  • School and behavioral issues, including evaluation for ADD/ADHD
  • Pre-travel care
  • Acute and chronic illnesses
  • Adolescent care.  We do accept Family PACT

We offer the following the procedures:

  • Foreign body removal
  • Initial fracture care
  • Burn and simple wound care
  • Suture or staple removal
  • Wart treatment
  • Ear piercing (requires payment at time of service)

Prenatal Visits

Prenatal visits to tour our office and meet one of our doctors are provided free of charge.  Please call our office at (510) 483-2600 to schedule an appointment.  We look forward to meeting you and answering any questions about our office and how to prepare to care for your newborn.

Medication refills

For medication refills, please check with your pharmacy first to check if there are any available refills on your initial prescription.  If not, you can ask the pharmacist to process the refill request.  You may also call our office with the exact prescription information (name and dosage) along with the pharmacy information including the location and phone number.

Chronic medications will only be refilled if we have seen your child within the past year.

For Prescription refills for controlled substances, you should call our office. Please allow extra time for these types of prescriptions.  You have the option to either pick it up or have us mail you the prescription.

If you desire a referral to a specialist, please call our office.  You will likely be given an appointment with or receive a phone call from one of our physicians to help you determine the appropriate referrals.  If your physician feels that a referral is warranted, your paperwork will be coordinated with your insurance company and the specialist by our referral coordinator.  You should hear about the status of your referral no later than two weeks after it was requested.

Medical records

For transfer of medical records to/from our office, please complete a signed release of medical records and deliver/fax it to our office.  We do our best to process this request within 14 business days.  We generally do not charge for this service if we mail these records directly to the requesting clinic or community agency.  If you request the records for your own personal files we charge $0.25 per page.

We can complete most forms. In order for us to complete your forms, your child must have had a physical examination within the past 12 months.  If your child is overdue, an appointment may be scheduled.

Please bring any forms that you need filled out with you to your scheduled appointment.

At each annual physical exam, we will provide you with a generic form that will be free of charge which you can use for proof of physical exam.  Please make a copy of this form for future use.  Alternatively, we can complete your specific forms at the time of the physical without charge.  If you require us to complete a physical exam form at a different time than your physical, we will charge a fee.

We will provide you with an immunization card at your first newborn visit free of charge if you did not receive one at the hospital.  We can also provide you with a record that is printed on paper (rather than a card) based on the information we have in our computerized registry.

After Hours Appointments and Advice Line

The UBCP After Hours Clinic has after hours nurse advice that is available when the office is closed. These are local nurses that have many years of pediatric training. They are available from 5pm to 7am weekdays, and 5pm Friday through 7am Monday on weekends. Please call our office at 510-483-2600 to access this nurse advice line.  This service is provided free of charge to our patients.

The UBCP After Hours clinic is located in Oakland and is open weekday evenings from 6 pm – 9:30 pm and on the weekends from 8:30 am – 9:30 pm. This clinic is staffed by local pediatricians, including physicians from our office. These appointments are scheduled by the advice nurses. Many illnesses and concerns can be managed there, saving your family a long wait in the Emergency Room. Our office will remain open Saturday mornings, 8:30 am – 12:30 pm, by appointment.

Emergency Care

In a life-threatening emergency, you should call 911.

If it is not life threatening and it is during office hours, please call us at 510-483-2600.  We should be able to make a same-day appointment for most emergencies or we will direct you to an appropriate emergency room.

After hours, you may call the same number so that you can speak with an advice nurse who will either provide you with advice or direct you to an appropriate urgent care center or emergency room.

We are affiliated with UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland and UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital San Francisco.

If you feel that you need to go to an emergency room immediately, we recommend Children’s Hospital Oakland or Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley.

If you do go to an emergency room, please bring all discharge paperwork to your follow-up appointment.

Hospital Care

Our physicians have admitting privileges at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland and Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley.

In order to provide more hours of care in our clinic, our doctors are no longer seeing our patients at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland. Our pediatricians do keep in close communication and are involved in coordinating care with the in-house pediatricians and specialists. If your child is admitted, please bring all discharge paperwork to your follow-up appointment.

We do see newborns at Eden Medical Center each day.  If you deliver at another hospital, your baby may be examined by the staff pediatricians there.  You can then schedule a follow-up visit within one to two days after discharge at our office.  Please ask them to send or give you discharge paperwork.
